I've been doing photo shoots for my portfolio book, I love sharing these photos with you guys because it takes so much creativity and teamwork to put these photos together. It's like magic seeing the piece from a sketch to its environment. We did some research scouting locations before I decided to use my grandmother's guest bedroom. We had to trace the illustrations by hand and move a bunch of furniture then we squeezed the costume in the smallest space we had to, to be photographed.
Editing the photos was very difficult because I wanted the photos to speak like the illustrations. I messed with shades of blue and black before deciding to add more white in the photos and give them a vintage feel.
I've been wanting to try new techniques and styles for my photography. I began being quite fascinated in documentary photography. I feel that every day is special and capturing a moment in a beautiful timeless matter is something I want to improve on. I looked up many ideas and thought that the Jem and the Hologram photo shoot for my costume I had planned would be a good time to take some photos about the process of an photo shoot and see some behind the scenes photos.
I wanted to go black and white on these photos and add some old grain effect to make it seem more retro and vintage like old school garage band photos. It was hard creating a throwback scene I had to do a lot of research but I've managed to find the right style to use on the session and quite happy with the results.
